Sage Roots Winter Newsletter
Greetings Sage Roots Followers,
I have been tending towards a seasonal newsletters versus monthly ones during busy seasons to try to honor the natural rhythm of the seasons. Hopefully you have been able to slow down, go inward, and begin to shed the things that are no longer serving you (I know this isn’t our societies tendency, so it can feel like an uphill battle). One of the beautiful aspects of both TCM & Ayurveda is their focus on honoring the seasons and the mindful shifts we can make to honor our bodies as the environmentally energy shifts. We can shift our movement practices, food choices, the herbs we are taking, and our external efforts and interactions. For example, letting spring be a time to ingest those more cleansing, fresh foods that are sprouting up after the winter season. Allowing that time to be a time of new/creation. Whereas this upcoming winter season, choosing heavier, moistening and nourishing foods, slower, lower to the ground movement, and allowing this time to let the old fall away.
I personally have honored my needs & body by taking a break from markets (I miss seeing your faces out in the community) and to focus more on mindfully serving my 1:1 clients and putting good energy into my monthly classes. I’ve enjoyed seeing many of you at Traditions for the Ayurvedic Nutrition and Cooking Series. We explored the energetics of food & tools to build our digestive fire. Our next class, Gentle Cleanse: Observing the Seasons has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 4th 2024 6p-8pm. You can register here. We will be exploring the different ways to honor these seasonal shifts and will have a little belated Winter Solstice Celebration. We we explore gentle tools to let go of the excess accumulations from the holidays & to support ourselves as we head towards Spring. There are so many harsh detox methods being recommended on social media that frequently end up further depleting folks rather than supporting their bodies. We will look at some tools to gently shed the excess ama & dosha that has accumulated in the previous season, so that we can support ourselves as we enter the new one. We will also be exploring the use of Marshmallow Root and Triphala to support this gentle cleansing process. We’ll be making a simple kitchari that can be used to support yourself during a mini at home Panchakarma (Ayurvedic Detox). We’ll mindfully share this yummy meal together as a community.
Take care of yourselves, find ways to honor your body and find the quiet joy of this season. Nourish your bodies and your minds & let me know if there’s anything I can do to support you.
Namaste,
Gray
