Sage Roots October Newsletter
Fall is upon us and the light is finally beginning to soften and cooler breezes are blowing through. While this is a time that we begin to ramp up our energy in our society because of festivities and holidays, it’s actually a time to start winding down. A time to eliminate what is no longer serves us, to focus inward, and to nourish our bodies more fully to sustain through the cooler months. Obviously in Florida our seasons are a bit different and our winters are very mild, but we still want to counter the upcoming coolness by adding some warmth to our digestion with spices like cinnamon & nutmeg. These nostalgic flavors that we associate with apple pie and pumpkin spices, can be added into smoothies, sprinkled on oatmeal, put atop sweet potatoes and all of our delicious summer squashes. The cool, dry, windy weather tends to particularly aggravate Vata dosha during this time of year, since it increases these already predominant qualities of the Vata type. Learn how to counter these affects and balance all 3 doshas through diet in my upcoming class, “The Energetics of Food: Balance with Each Bite: Cinnamon & Nutmeg,” held on October 28th from 6-8pm at Traditions School of Herbal Studies. We will be cooking and tasting in class, as well as taking home some items to enjoy. Register here!
Cinnamon & Nutmeg are two of the primary ingredients in Golden Mylk as well! If you aren’t familiar this traditional Ayurvedic drink supports healthy digestion and lowers levels of inflammation. It’s also just super comforting and has been described as a hug in a cup or a warm blanket. Having an evening cup is great nighttime ritual to wind down and settle into your body at night.
This traditional drink of Ayurveda contains Turmeric & Black Pepper to reduce inflammation, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Nutmeg to support healthy digestion and enliven the senses, & we have also added Shatavari, Ashwagandha & Astragalus to support a healthy stress & immune response.
This powder can be added to your milk/mylk of choice: oat, hemp, almond, coconut, etc (we prefer Oat) and works well with just a touch of natural sweetner: honey, maple syrup, but our favorite is date syrup. It balances the pungency of the other flavor profiles. I’m excited to announce that my Golden Mylk will be SOON be available to order through my Product Shop on my website, along with my Hair Oil, Tinctures, Teas, and other herbal goodies! If you are a St Pete local you can also now order a cup of my Golden Mylk @ Teaki Tavern Kava & Juice Bar at 530 49th St S.
Enjoy this seasonal shift, ground, nourish, sleep deeply & be present. I hope to connect with you soon!
